Prof Paul de Souza
Paul de Souza has been a practicing medical oncologist for 25 years, having obtained his Fellowship (FRACP) in 1992. He trained in medical oncology at St George and Prince of Wales Hospitals, and was Research Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia (1994-1997) before being appointed as a staff specialist in Medical Oncology at Wollongong and St George Hospitals (1997-2010).  In 2011, he was appointed as the Foundation Professor of Medical Oncology at Western Sydney University and a medical oncologist at Liverpool Hospital. He has clinical interests in genitourinary cancer, brain cancer and rare cancers such as sarcoma, but sees patients with many cancer types for Phase I clinical trials. He is currently oncology program director for Western Sydney University, Director of the Phase I trials Unit at Liverpool Hospital, and Director of CONCERT, a NSW Cancer Institute funded translational cancer research centre. He has been teaching medical students, resident medical officers, and advanced trainees over many years, in Australia and in the USA. He continues to supervise medical student research, Masters research students, and PhD students. He runs a cancer research laboratory at the Ingham Institute and has research interests in liquid biopsy, circulating tumour biomarkers, translational cancer research, and Phase I trials.

Dr Adam Cooper

Dr Adam Cooper
Dr Adam Cooper completed his specialist training in Medical Oncology in 2012. He has trained in general oncology and has an interest in clinical trials including Phase 1 trials of new cancer treatments.

Adam completed a science degree before studying medicine, and also has a Masters degree in clinical epidemiology. Adam has a strong interest in research and has been involved in teaching of medical students and junior doctors for several years.

In addition to his work at Southern Oncology Specialists, Adam works part-time as a staff specialist at Liverpool Hospital. He is also a lecturer for the Western Sydney University medical school, and is completing a PhD investigating novel treatments for prostate cancer.

Dr Kate Wilkinson
Dr Kate Wilkinson gained her undergraduate medical degree from the University of Edinburgh, UK in 2007. She moved to Australia in 2009 and obtained her FRACP in 2017. She is a medical oncologist who trained in South Eastern and South Western Sydney, with a current appointment at Liverpool Hospital.

Kate is a current PhD candidate at Western Sydney University, with a thesis title "Immune biomarkers
predicting chemotherapy efficacy in colorectal cancer". Her other research interests include the application of guideline recommended treatment to real world patients, and patterns of clinical care and outcomes in the management of patients with colorectal cancer.

Prof Chee Lee

Prof Chee Khoon Lee
Prof Chee Khoon Lee is a consultant medical oncologist. He obtained his medical degree (with honours) from The University of Sydney in 2000. He completed his clinical fellowship training in general medical oncology and internal medicine at St George and Prince of Wales Hospitals, and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2009). He has Master degrees in clinical epidemiology (2004), and in biostatistics (2009). He was the National Breast Cancer Foundation Scholar and obtained his PhD from the University of Sydney in 2012.

Prof Lee is the Director of Oncology Clinical Research Unit at St George Hospital. He is a senior research fellow and associate professor of medicine at the National Health and Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Centre of University of Sydney. He is a principal investigator of multiple clinical trials of novel experimental treatments of lung and gynaecologic and cancers. He serves as a member of scientific advisory committees for ANZ Breast Cancer Trials Group (2013–2017) and Australasian Lung Cancer Trials Group (since 2017). Prof Lee also supervises medical oncology trainee locally in both clinical training and research. He has also been invited regularly to provide lectures and training to international oncologists in clinical oncology and research.

Prof Lee is a senior member of the lung cancer and gynaecologic cancer multidisciplinary meetings at St George Hospital. He treats a broad ranging of cancers with a subspeciality focus on lung and gynaecologic malignancies. He is a fluent Mandarin speaker.

A/Prof Winston Liauw
Conjoint Associate Professor Winston Liauw is a medical oncologist and clinical pharmacologist. He is Director of the Cancer Services Stream of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and the Medical Lead for Cancer Services at St George Hospital. He is a board member of NPS MedicineWise and works in public policy in the health care sector. His major clinical practice is in gastrointestinal and liver cancer and in particular focuses on diseases involving the peritoneum including colon cancer, appendix cancer, pseudomyxoma peritonei, peritoneal mesothelioma and common and rare types of ovarian cancer. In addition he consults in relation to pharmacogenetic testing and counselling.

A/Prof Katrin Sjoquist
A/Prof Katrin Sjoquist is a medical oncologist whose practice focuses on Gastrointestinal Cancers and Neuroendocrine Cancers. A/Prof Sjoquist is experienced in the management of cancers of the bowel (colon and rectum), oesophagus, stomach (gastric), pancreas, hepatobiliary tract (cholangiocarcinoma), intestines, anus and all Neuroendocrine (NET) tumour sites.

As a passionate clinical researcher A/Prof Sjoquist combines her comprehensive knowledge of cutting edge treatments to tailor therapy for each patient in line with their individual goals. She prides herself on working with colleagues across other disciplines to provide whole-person care in a compassionate manner. In addition to her appointment at St George Private Hospital, A/Prof Sjoquist is a staff specialist at St George and Sutherland public hospitals and can admit and treat patients at all these locations.

A/Prof Sjoquist completed training in medical oncology in 2010 (FRACP) and subsequently completed a fellowship in clinical trials research and evidence based medicine at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, obtaining a Master of Clinical Trials Research (USyd). She is a lead investigator on several national and international trials of treatments to improve outcomes for patients with Gastrointestinal and Gynaecological cancers. In addition, A/Prof Sjoquist is committed to training and mentoring junior doctors and specialists, through her roles as a college examiner, steering committee member for the ACORD workshop, and Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney.

Dr Xavier Badoux

Dr Xavier Badoux
Dr Xavier Badoux is a clinical hematologist with appointment at St George public and St George Private hospitals. He is a conjoint lecturer at the University of NSW. Dr Badoux has a strong research interest in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and lymphoproliferative diseases.

Dr Badoux graduated from Harvard University, Massachusetts followed by his medical degree from the University of Sydney. Dr Badoux obtained dual fellowships under the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA).

After his specialty training, Dr Badoux completed a clinical fellowship in 2011 the Leukemia department at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr Badoux pursued a research interest in novel therapeutic mechanisms in CLL, investigating the immunological changes occurring with immunomodulatory therapy.

Since his return to Australia, Dr Badoux maintains a strong interest in lymphoma and leukemia research and he is principal investigator in a number of international clinical trials in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and lymphoma exploring the benefits of novel targeted therapies in the treatment of these disease. He is the author of a number of peer-reviewed original research in high-impact journals.

Dr Adrian Selim

Dr Adrian Selim
Clinical Haematologist

Dr Adrian Selim is an Australian-trained haematologist with subspecialist fellowships in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy. He is committed to providing patients and their loved ones with ample information and support and treats every patient with respect and empathy. Individual patient management is tailored for every case according to their individual goals and needs.

Biography
Dr Adrian Selim is a clinical and laboratory haematologist with extensive expertise in malignant haematology. In 2009 Dr Selim completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Bond University and subsequently undertook haematology training in Sydney’s Eastern hospital network. He completed a bone marrow transplant fellowship at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, United Kingdom and in 2019 became the inaugural cell therapies fellow at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. During this fellowship he gained extensive experience in novel immunotherapies, particularly chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR-T), as well as a strong clinical research foundation.

Dr Selim has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He is a fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA). His clinical experience covers a wide range of malignant and non-malignant blood disorders including acute and chronic leukaemias, lymphoma, myeloma, myeloproliferative disorders and myelodysplastic syndromes.

Ovarian Support Group Meeting

The group meets on a monthly basis (on the second Monday of the month) and is an open group. “Open” means that there are a mix of new and regular group attendees each month and the number of women in this group can vary from month to month, we normally have 6-10 people attend each month.
